Background<br /><br />The introduction of free education policy (FEP) in 2022 has resulted in high demand of school places in all government schools in Zambia. Class sizes has increased, and desk space has reduced. The president passed a directive that no child should sit on the floor by the end of December 2023. Responding to this directive, schools are busy finding ways of fixing and busying desks. The Ministry of Education provides funding to all schools and very little is meant for desks. Therefore, constituency development fund has a budget line for desks and school infrastructure but in some cases, this is not a priority. School leaders are still facing a lot of challenges in data management and will need skills to be able to deliver effectively. In rural set up girls are still being forced to get married and or get involved in economic activities including fishing and cattle rearing despite the opportunity of free education. Again, school leaders will need capacity building to engage communities on the importance of education for their children. <br /><br />Objectives. <br /><br />• Establish smart corners and sustainable farming methods in schools and communities <br />• Build on the existing and new relationships with policy makers at national, provincial and district levels. <br />• Establish smart corners and sustainable farming methods in schools and communities <br />• Build on the existing and new relationships with policy makers at national, provincial and district levels. <br />• Deliver climate change skills through workshop and musical play and set up climate change in 20 schools to address deforestation, unstainable farming methods, degradation and drought/floods. <br />• As one of the objectives of the programme is to encourage core skills such as team leadership and critical/creative thinking for climate change, participating schools led by their patrons will present concepts and solutions for climate change mitigation at an exhibition <br /> attended by community members and the Ministry of Education representatives.<br />• Establish environmental protection Smart Corners in schools that will promote pupils gain skills which will encourage them stay in school, reduction in school absenteeism, early marriages and improved social behaviour. <br /><br />
