Tender description

The project consists of essential repair, refurbishment and upgrade works to the chimney structure. The works are expected to include, but are not limited to, the following: • Removal of asbestos containing materials (unless they are deemed safe to leave and manage in place) • Removal of any trapped pests / animals (e.g. pigeons within the flues) • Repairs to the reinforced concrete structure to deal with the existing defects and to prevent re-occurrence. (wrapping / encasement to be considered as part of the repair options) • Repair and refurbishment or replacement of the steel cover plates over the duct entry points including the replacement of all fixings. • Capping of the open flues at the top of the chimney. • Surface treatments for the chimney structure to enhance its durability, weathering performance and aesthetics. • Repainting of the red and white stripes on the upper part of the chimney. • Other repair, refurbishment and upgrade works that become evident over the course of the project. A documented access strategy and a maintenance manual is also required for future inspection, maintenance and repairs. Whilst it is intended to carry out repair, refurbishment and upgrade works to the chimney, the Design Team will need to consider the feasibility of this during Stage 1 of the project. The Design Team are to also consider demolition as part of this feasibility exercise. The Structural Engineer will be the Design Team Lead and the Employers Representative. The Structural Engineer will provide the following additional services, either directly or by engaging a sub-consultant: • PSDP services • Quantity Surveying services The services will be required for the following stages: • Stage 1 – Preliminary Design • Stage 2 – Design • Stage 3 – Tender Action, Evaluation and Award • Stage 4 – Construction • Stage 5 – Handover The Project Brief and Service Requirements are further described in the tender documents.
