Tender description

The British Council is seeking to commission a specialist recruitment agency to take the lead in sourcing four new trustees for its Board over a twelve-month period. <br /><br />The Board consists of fourteen trustees and a Chair. Each trustee role is unremunerated and lasts for a maximum of two, three-year terms (six years in total). Trustees are expected to attend six Board meetings per year (for which papers are circulated in advance), plus one away day focused on strategy. In-person attendance is preferred for Board meetings but is not essential. Expenses are payable for travel and accommodation where required. There are occasional opportunities for engagements related to the British Council’s work, which may include a limited number of optional international visits.<br /><br />The trustee vacancies will become available on different dates during the twelve-month period, so more than one round of recruitment is likely to be required, although some vacancies will become available at around the same time, in which case recruitment can be conducted for more than one role simultaneously. Trustees need to be recruited according to specific criteria (a separate role profile will be provided for each of the four positions).<br /><br />The British Council would like the option to extend the contract for two further periods, each of twelve months.<br />
