NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board Barnsley place - Teledermatology Service

NHS South Yorkshire Integrated Care Board Barnsley place (the ‘Authority') intends to extend a contract without competition during the period 1st April 2023 – 31st March 2024 to the incumbent providers as detailed below:<br/><br/>Clinical Partnership, The Octagon, Hesslewood Hall, Ferriby Road, Hessle, East Yorkshire,<br/>HU13 0LH<br/><br/><br/>The contract value is currently £138,480.00 per year (actuals January 2022 to January 2023 is £197,448). The equivalent for the 12 months 01/04/23 to 31/03/2024 is estimated to be £198,240.00.<br/><br/>NHS South Yorkshire ICB recognises that it is necessary to further extend the current Teledermatology service to 31st March 2024. Lot 1: A detailed and thorough review of the current service is planned to investigate and understand the reasons for continued growth. The growth in referrals is being seen across Barnsley. The current contract is overperforming and there is no current full understanding for the reasons for the overperformance and no reductions in the referral numbers to the dermatology department at Barnsley Hospital. This is causing added pressure to GP Practices and Barnsley Hospital who are already under stress with increased demands As part of the review it is likely some aspects of the current service will be redesigned to reflect and meet the needs of the service. Information and data will be used from across all relevant sources in Barnsley to fully understand the referral reasons and how best to deal with the demand. The review will commence in April 2023 and findings reviewed and implemented into an updated service specification by March 2024. To also guarantee best use of the service whilst ensuring demand is managed at an appropriate level together with the best use of public funds.<br/><br/>It would not be in the public’s best interests to procure a model that may no longer be right for the local population. Nor would it be in the public’s best interests to de-commission a service that provides a service which is used and regarded highly by patients without an appropriate alternative. <br/><br/>If the service was decommissioned, these patients would instead need to be referred by a GP to Barnsley Hospital for advice or an outpatient appointment which would cause extra pressure on the hospital and possibly increase the acuity of the patients skin condition.<br/><br/>Therefore, NHS South Yorkshire ICB recognises that it is necessary to further extend the current Teledermatology service to 31st March 2024.
