Provision of Architect for the Charles Huang Advanced Technology & Innovation Centre (CH-ATIC) (RIBA Stages 0-7)

Tender description

This Prior Information Notice (PIN) relates to a project to establish a Contract for the Provision of Architect for the Charles Huang Advanced Technology & Innovation Centre (CH-ATIC) (RIBA Stages 0-7) (UOS-30807-2023) at the University of Strathclyde. Lot 1: The building to be known as the Charles Huang Advanced Technology & Innovation Centre (CH-ATIC) is located on John Street, bounded by the Royal College Building to the south, the Thomas Graham Building on the north, and the James Weir Building behind, and was formerly used as the University of Strathclyde Students' Association (USSA) Building. Originally constructed with 8 levels plus a mezzanine at level 8, and a rooftop apartment in the late 1950s, the building was further extended to the side and rear in the 1970s. The existing GIFA is 5,535m2. Having a poor thermal performance, the building will be designed to EnerPHit standard. BREEAM Excellent is also currently a University minimum standard, and WELL (Silver) accreditation is anticipated. The CH-ATIC Building will be a mixed-use, flexible building that is being created as a hub for entrepreneurship, innovation, and collaboration by a thriving community of companies, researchers and innovation support organisations. Design is expected to commence around May 2024 to achieve a planning application in Autumn 2024, and a building warrant application around November/December 2024. RIBA Stage 5 is expected to run from Spring 2025 to Summer 2026. It should also be noted that this appointment / Architect role, will include interior design, Passivhaus design and and also require engagement with sub-consultants such as a Fire Engineer, Acoustician, and the Passivhaus/EnerPHit certifier.
