IBTS mobile blood donation clinics operate from 6 centres, travelling to more than 400 locations across Ireland, setting up beforehand, running the collection clinic and packing everything away afterwards. These clinic locations are temporary and can take place in diverse venues including hotels, sporting clubs and schools. In many locations, there is no WiFi available within the venue itself and due to the diverse nature of clinic venues, mobile coverage and reception can be unreliable in some locations. Clinics make extensive use of IT, with Blood Donation equipment and laptops currently linked via a simple local WiFi network and basic WiFi routers. These networks do not currently have any access to the IBTS corporate network. Donations cannot be accepted without this local connectivity. All necessary IT equipment is carried by the collection team, including at least one spare for critical components. The purpose of this project is to upgrade IBTS Mobile Clinic connectivity to facilitate secure real-time access to the IBTS network and systems as well as improving connectivity in clinics themselves, whilst also catering for the addition of at least 10 new tablets for a new Donor Questionnaire which is to be introduced to reduce paper records on the clinic.
