Tender description

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Construction of a new Coast Guard Station at Greystones harbour with a floor area of 259 square metres. Accommodation includes a boathouse and vehicle store, along with an office and changing facilities. The single storey concrete building will be designed to withstand severe exposure to waves over-topping the pier. The extremely exposed site is at the end of a harbour pier and the very high lateral wave forces to which the building will be subject will require specialised building fabric. The contractor and subcontractors will have specialist knowledge and experience of such buildings in marine environments. The building construction will generally be; fair faced exterior cast in-situ concrete with anodised aluminium windows and doors. The works include all drainage and watermain installations, mechanical and electrical installations, all furniture, fittings and finishes, the associated hard landscaping works including installation of perimeter boundaries, provision of car parking spaces, new entranceway, ramps, paths, walls, signage, external lighting, flagpoles and radio masts. The specialist nature of the building is manifest primarily in building structure. The building will be of cast in-situ concrete roof, floors and walls supported on deep piled foundations. The foundations will be constructed through the existing pier structure and underlying historic pier. The cast insitu walls will be exposed externally and will be designed and constructed to prevent moisture ingress into the building using special measures. The roof will have a zinc finish on top of the concrete. Due to the exposed nature of the site and its proximity to the sea on three sides, particular attention must be paid to health and safety measures to be taken on site during works in all weathers. The contractor and specialist subcontractors will have specialist knowledge and experience of such measures.
