RfI for the provision of high flux X-ray source

Details

Tender description

This Request for Information is focused on establishing potential suppliers for the provision of an X-ray source that supplies considerably higher flux compared to conventional tungsten-solid-anode microfocus sources for the Engineering Department of the University of Cambridge.

The Engineering Department is working on a range of projects that require high-flux and high-energy X-rays. Broadly we require a powerful 1kW X-ray source that maintains a focal spot size of ~30 microns and has high flux in the entire range of the X-ray spectrum (energies up to 160 keV) in contrast to conventional tungsten-solid-anode microfocus sources where the spot size scales with X-ray energy. This source will initially be used for performing energy dispersive X-ray diffraction measurements, but it is envisioned that the use will be subsequently broadened.
