Wigan Council is seeking expressions of interest from Health and Social Care providers who are able to deliver a regulated Supported Lodgings service. The driving thrust of the Independent Care Review is an emphasis on the importance and transformative ability of relationships in their many forms to enable children and young people to be better supported. ‘it is loving relationships that hold the solutions for children overcoming adversity…’ There is a focus on supported lodgings as an option and the value of this as an option to prepare young people for adulthood. Wigan aims to continue to improve our current accommodation and support offer for Care Leavers, young people at risk of homelessness and separated young people by providing appropriate support as they move into adulthood. As part of our offer to young people we are looking to commission a regulated Supported Lodgings provider. Supported Lodgings are defined as: “Domestic or private lodgings where there is both an adult (usually called a host or carer) living on site and a requirement, and/or expectation and/or agreement that some level of support is provided.” The contract will be for 15 hosts living within Wigan Borough and will be awarded on a 3 year plus one plus one basis.
