Local Places for Nature - Aberavon 'Living Wall'

An award has been made by Neath Port Talbot Council to appoint a contractor to design, construct and deliver a modular ‘living wall’ on one of Aberavon’s rugby football grounds changing rooms. The creation of a modular ‘living wall’ on this site intends to tackle the issues of ‘heat island’ effect, air and noise pollution as well as provide a habitat for wildlife. It is meant to inspire people to rethink the way we look at providing space for nature; make them understand how nature can help us fight the impact of climate change and enable local people to interact positively with nature. Please note that we are not looking to have the whole of the wall covered, only a portion of it which would wrap around the corner of the building and would be complemented by some artwork. This project will serve as a pilot example of best practice to demonstrate that green infrastructure can fulfil multiple functions and deliver multiple benefits. The successful contractor will deliver a ‘living wall’ over the period December 2023 to March 2024.
