Unintentionally Produced Persistent Organic Pollutants Release Inventories Update Project.

Tender description

The Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (Convention) requires, among other things, Parties to the Convention to establish and maintain release inventories of unintentionally produced persistent organic pollutants listed in Annex C to the Convention. Ireland's release inventories were last updated in 2016. Since the last release inventories update, Hexachlorobutadiene has been added to Annex C to the Convention so triggering the need for another update. Additionally, the EMEP/EEA Air Pollutant Emission Inventory Guidebook, used for the update, has been revised (2019). For project added value and in line with the last release inventories update, it is proposed to include release inventories for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons listed in the UNECE Persistent Organic Pollutants Protocol. Where data of sufficient quality are available, the project will address releases inventories to the required five vectors. Data gathered from the updated release inventories will assist Ireland in meeting its reporting obligations under the Convention and provide input into assessing the effectiveness of current measures in place to reduce releases of unintentionally produced persistent organic pollutants. Project findings should also assist identification and development of further controls (if required).
