Thriving Communities Research: Understanding the Civic Battery

Central to the Fund's role is supporting communities in the UK to thrive. We are carrying out work to increase our understandings of how we can further enable this. To support our thinking, we have developed a Thriving Communities model that maps the building blocks of a thriving community, drawing on external evidence and models developed by others. The model considers social infrastructure as a central component of a thriving community. This is made up of three elements: places for people to come together/the means to get to them; activities and support to bring people together; and people and organisations active in their community to lead, shape and effect positive change. We are commissioning a small but foundational piece of research to further understand this last category of empowered and active people who lead, shape and make things happen in their community.
