Durham County Council are restoring the grade II listed Mount Oswald to create an exciting new local history centre for the county. The centre will bring into one central location the story of the history and heritage of the county, as told through historic records, photographs and objects. The project will bring Mount Oswald back into use, adding a high quality, visually appealing extension which will complement the existing building. There will be state of the art research facilities for use by those who just want to browse collections, find out about their own history or carry out detailed research. Providing access to the most heavily used and fragile items in the Council’s archive collection in digital format in place of microfilm is a key part of our digital transformation, preservation and access programmes. Durham County Council require a solution which allows a user to select, from the folder structure within an Azure storage account, a folder of images which represents a single original record (e.g., a register). The images need to be presented as a scrollable ribbon of thumbnails, which the user can scroll through and select particular images for larger-scale viewing, including zooming and potentially manipulation of contrast and colour density/overlays to aid in accessibility and readability.
