The sportscotland Institute of Sport, Performance Physiology dept was reviewing the purchase a new Metabolic Cart (gas analysis) system for testing high performance athlete population. A metabolic cart is a device that measures the body's metabolism by analyzing the oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations in the breath. It can be used to measure the resting metabolic rate, the energy requirements during exercise, and the work capacity.
