CHI at Crumlin is a Referral Hospital for Paediatric Red Cell Disorders (including Haemoglobinopathies) in Ireland. As a designated specialist site by EuroBloodNet and a referral centre for paediatric haemoglobinopathies in Ireland, we require an analyser that can distinguish between clinically significant and less common Hb variants often found in our patient population. Patients with Hereditary Hb disorders are diagnosed and confirmed in Crumlin. The clinical care and monitoring of treatment of haemoglobinopathies e.g. Sickle cell disease and Thalassaemias e.g. Beta thalassaemia major is under the care of CHI at Crumlin for the whole country. HPLC is a routinely used analyser in the haematology laboratory, CHI at Crumlin. It is in use on an almost daily basis as previously explained for the diagnosis of haemoglobinopathies, thalassaemia and the clinical monitoring of Sickle cell disorder patients throughout Ireland.
