Tender description
Green Action Trust (GATrust), acting on behalf of The Leven Programme, seek to engage a consultant or Heritage Organisation to undertake feasibility works and explorative archaeological investigations into Methil Mill and establish the potential for reopening it. If recommended, the re-opening of the Mill will form part of a Stage 2 application to the National Heritage Lottery Fund and will happen during the Delivery Phase of the project. The study should, therefore, also provide details on the works needed that will form part of a second commission. During the development of both the Leven Catchment Heritage Framework and Leven Connectivity Masterplan, Methil Mill has been identified as a key piece of heritage to be celebrated and interpreted as part of the Connectivity project and River Parks Project. It is referenced in the concept design for the Methil Garden area and is still visible in a clearing in the regenerating woodland. During the Development phase of the NLHF funded River Parks project, a feasibility study and investigations into the options for reopening the Mill will take place, providing recommendations and options for a Delivery Phase project that brings the Mill back to life, re-engage the community and is celebrated for locals and visitors alike. Tenders should be prepared that detail the methods and tools that the organisation will use to undertake the feasibility study and establish the recommendations of opening the Mill. This could include (but not necessarily limited to): Desk based research Geophysical surveys Geomorphological mapping Sediment coring Topographical surveys Archaeological assessments (including trial excavations if deemed appropriate) Process and interpretation of results Production of a feasibility report with recommendations for next steps to incorporate into the NLHF stage 2 application Community involvement is an important element of the project, and we invite tenders that include proposals for community engagement and volunteer participation. We can facilitate this through the Partnership, and our Leven Engagement Officer and Leven Communities Officer who already have good contacts within the community and local heritage groups.
