Cuningar Loop Access Road and Car Park, Rutherglen

Tender description

Construction of road and extension to car park. Cuningar Loop lies at the heart of the Clyde Gateway area and as a whole totals 27 hectares in size. In a bid to enable access and restore Cuningar to public green space the site has been developed in two distinct phases with 14.6 hectares to the northwest allocated for a woodland park development completed in partnership with Forestry and Land Scotland in 2015. This included the introduction of a network of paths, a boardwalk, bicycle pump track, children’s play and bouldering features. Since opening the park has proved to be very successful and in 2016 Clyde Gateway commissioned a feasibility study to look at options to extend the park into the southern half of the site. In 2019 a concept masterplan was developed for the southern half of the site and this masterplan went onto form the basis of a Green Infrastructure Fund bid application (GIF). The Cuningar Loop Phase 2 project has progressed to construction and is due to be completed in July 2022. As part of the Additional Car Park and Access Road works, a proposal to improve the existing access road with an asphalt surface and the further extension of the carpark has been developed. Lighting will also form part of these proposals. The entrance design will also be developed to create an attractive approach to the park that retains the flexibility to accommodate overflow parking in the future. Total construction period estimated at 16 weeks in length, with final clearance of planning applications late August 2022, and a construction start date of early September 2022.
