Tender description

The FLIGHT project within the College of Science at Swansea University has appointed a contractor to build a bespoke Wind Tunnel to test living birds, where the bird sets its own wings to fly in the tunnel, and both the size and speed of the tunnel are designed to provide natural flying conditions for any bird that might be used. The tunnel is an open-circuit blower, which produces a flow in which the bird and the observer are at ambient pressure, with no restrictions on access to the bird. As the tunnel will be a blow-down design, the whole laboratory needed to be treated as a recirculating system. Although it was originally thought that this open-circuit design would mean that a cooling system was unlikely to be required, the on-going construction of the tunnel indicated the need for additional cooling measures and this notice is to confirm the award of the contract to address those measures.
