Tender description

The UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC) is the UK’s publicly funded battery manufacturing development facility providing manufacturing scale-up and skills development in the battery sector. UKBIC is part of the UK Government's Faraday Battery Challenge, which helps UK companies research, develop, and commercialise cost-effective, high-performance, durable, safe, low-weight, and recyclable batteries UKBIC is a key enabler for full-scale, high-volume battery manufacturing and high-volume electric vehicle production. This vision from the UK Automotive Council, developed with the automotive industry, recognises the importance and value that will be derived from advances in manufacturing technology and process expertise in the delivery of the next generation of battery systems across electrode, cell, module, and pack levels. This open access facility enables industry to achieve an internationally competitive position in scaling up and commercialising advanced technologies. These technologies are central to the design, development and manufacture of batteries, primarily for the automotive sector, but with wider application to trial and develop high volume manufacturing processes. It is a critical link in the development chain, to enable the most promising early and mid-stage research and development activities, to feed through into commercial exploitation. It will act as a focal point for UK collaboration and skills development and will enable UK technology to reach the market at ground-breaking levels of performance and quality. Flexible Industrialisation Line The new Flexible Industrialisation Line facility will enable the testing and production of new manufacturing processes as well as the use of new materials, new cell formats and new module and pack structures. The development and testing of new production techniques as well as new product technologies should be feasible. This in turn should help reduce the risk of commercial manufacturing facility investments within the UK. Industrialisation Analysis Laboratory The new Industrialisation Analysis laboratory Area will enable UK BIC to conduct Quality Control checks on materials/products manufactured and will consist of the below rooms

o Forensics (FOR)

o Characterisation (CHAR)

o Coating and Assembly (CAA)

o Chemical and Physical Processing (CPPRO)

o Electrochemistry (ELC)

o Support Office (SO)c
Keywords: Laboratory , Construction
