Tender description

NRW is looking to gather information on Ground preparation & Tree planting Services by using a supplier engagement questionnaire. Therefore this PIN is not a call for competition but intended to explore the market base and different operational and contractual arrangements to help shape the procurement strategy for these services and find the best value solution for our forestry operations. This means balancing cost, quality and sustainability (including innovation). Lot 1: Ground Preparation Ground preparation will include different work types carefully chosen for each site, so that soil disturbance is minimised, whilst still delivering a beneficial planting position. This may be achieved through brash raking, mounding (hinge/inverted patch/continuous), screefing, mulching or scarification. Tracked and Walking excavators may also be used if appropriate. Ground preparation works may also include the creation of drainage channels, or the maintenance of existing drainage channels and the construction of ATV tracks. Additional information: Lotting structure may be subject to change. Lot 2: Tree Planting Tree planting work is seasonal and only starts in earnest once the trees grown by our provider have become dormant (September, or later). The season ends in the spring, as the weather becomes warmer and drier (usually around April). For the purposes of this PIN, Tree Planting will cover planting on mounded ground, on Scarified ground, screef planting, direct planting, planting treated plants, planting on walking excavator sites, beat up and underplanting, and fitting / removing stakes and tubes. An element of mechanised planting may also be included, which is achieved by purpose built machine and or attachment combining both ground preparation and the planting of trees in a single operation, allowing for trees to be planted outside of the traditional planting season.
