Tender description

This Request for Quotation is for the package of landscaping works as part of the Bootle Canalside project. The Council has purchased 1.8 acres of land to the south of the Bootle Strand Shopping Centre and to the North of the Leeds Liverpool Canal to deliver a project which will assist in the regeneration of both the Strand and the wider Bootle area. The project proposals seek to create a new temporary events-based destination on the Canal side site with a mix of leisure, community and cultural uses, animating the waterfront and catering to local residents, people employed within the area and new visitors to Bootle. Landscaping/Urban Garden A key element of the project is to deliver a Waterside Urban Garden on the site. A temporary landscaping strategy utilising planters and seating of different size will be used to define the zones and spaces within the site, create points of interest and meeting places, as well as opportunities for socialising and community events. The soft landscaping and planting within containers is also intended to soften and break up the hard surfacing across the site. This will be most evident with the waterside garden area, where the number of planters and variety of planting will create the impression of a leafy and green public urban garden on the banks of the canal. The proposed materials for the planters will be attractive yet robust, safe and secure, with the temporary aesthetic described previously yet still suitable for a public environment. The Planting scheme outlined in the supporting documentation has been designed to be low maintenance yet maximise the potential for introducing bio-diversity and ecological value onto the site and this section of the canal corridor. Ground surfacing will be largely hard landscaping to maintain the flexibility of the site for events and markets. Some soft landscaping may be introduced along the southern boundary where new steps and ramps are proposed to connect the site with the canal tow-path. It is important to note that the Council will be purchasing the necessary planter boxes under separate contract, and this contract is for the supply and implementation of the soft landscaping elements as specified in the supporting documentation, including soil. Please note, the supply and implementation of the required works will be by Friday 29th April 2022.
Keywords: Landscaping, Trees, Shrubs
