Project_5451 NIEA – Veterinary Inspectors for Dangerous Wild Animals and Endangered Species The Dangerous Wild Animals (Northern Ireland) Order 2004 became law on 28 December 2006 and was introduced to regulate the keeping of Dangerous Wild Animals (DWAs) by private individuals. The Northern Ireland Environment Agency (NIEA) and the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) wish to appoint suitably qualified veterinary inspectors to:- • carry out inspections of premises where DWA(s) and / or endangered species are or are proposed to be kept; and along with NIEA or police officers, inspect premises where an offence is suspected. • assist with seizing of animals and assessment of seized animals, alongside or at the request of the NIEA or PSNI. It is anticipated the contract will be awarded mid October 2011 and will run for two years with the option to extend for two further periods of 12 months each.
