XXXX DOJ - WASTE MANAGEMENT SERVICES FOR FORENSIC SCIENCE NI (FSNI)

Tender description

1.1 The Central Procurement Directorate (CPD), on behalf of Forensic Science Northern Ireland (FSNI) intends to establish a Contract for the management of waste within their defined compounds. 1.2 Forensic Science Northern Ireland (FSNI) is an Executive Agency of the Department of Justice. There are currently 230 staff working on site at Seapark, Carrickfergus. 1.3 Forensic Science Northern Ireland is seeking to secure the services of a suitable contractor for safe and legal collection, recycling and disposal of waste generated by the Agency. The successful Service Provider will be required to transport and dispose of hazardous healthcare waste and non-hazardous waste streams to either, recycling facilities, landfill, deep landfill burial or incineration. The Service Provider will be required to manage the waste with a view to reducing the overall volume of waste going to landfill. 1.4 The organisation will adopt the principles of the “best practicable environmental option” in the delivery of its waste management services. FSNI wishes to apply a “waste hierarchical approach” to reduce, reuse , recycle and recover waste products in preference to the disposal of waste by landfill. This will have to be a staged approach to be developed in liaison with the Service Provider over a period of 12 months.
