As a major acute hospital, the steam and condensate plant is essential to the functioning of all Main Theatres, Day Case Theatres, HSDU Clean Room, ICU, HDU, A&E and Isolation Rooms. The steam and condensate are also critical to supply all space heating and domestic hot water. The current condensate pipework has outlived its expected lifespan and over recent years has been subject to numerous leaks. The problems which have occurred and which will continue to occur due to the age and lack of resilience in the current system could result damage to the building fabric due to the leakage of steam and the shutdown of the main boiler plant The main objectives of this project include: The complete removal and replacement of all existing Tower Block condensate pipework and equipment required to return the condensate to the boiler house. Repairs to condensate pipework in other areas. Improve the efficiency of the steam plant to the whole hospital site. Improve the resilience of the steam and condensate system within the Tower Block and Nucleus buildings and other areas.
