Tender description

Shomere pool (approx.1.3 ha) is situated in a 19 ha steep sided glacial basin and contains a relatively flat expanse of deep peat. Historically it supported an important bog habitat. It appears however that due to drainage works early in the 20th century its hydrology altered and the basin habitat progressively changed and became dominated by birch/oak/ alder/ pine woodland. The aim of this project is to remove an area of approximately 3.5ha of remaining birch woodland within the peat basin in order to reduce evapo-transpiration losses.
