The Academy Authoring Tool

Tender description

The BBC Academy provides online and face-to-face training to all BBC staff, freelancers and relevant contractor employees (e.g. TV production company staff). This is delivered via its soon to be upgraded proprietary internal only LMS, academy.gateway. The Academy also sells a number of online courses to customers outside the UK as well as providing a small number of BBC courses to the wider industry for free. These are delivered on a 3rd party externally available LMS and this is part of the Academy's charter obligation to train the wider media industry. Further to that end the Academy publishes a rang of materials on its public facing web sites (BBC Academy, College of Production and Journalism) using the BBC's dynamic web publishing tools. These different content outlets have a range of different authoring methods from SCORM 1.2, to markup to xml. Furthermore many of the courses have been built using various Flash authoring solutions. This has created a number of issues in terms of accessibility, usability and scalability for the Academy's course portfolio. The Academy is seeking to standardise the content production methods and create a consistent user experience across all of its content output. With this in mind the Academy is looking for a new content authoring solution to fulfil this strategic objective.
