Safety Advice for Streetwork activities

Derry City Council delivers a diverse range of services to the public. It is responsible for parks, street cleansing, economic development, leisure services, refuse collection and many other vital services on which communities and individuals rely. The provisions of these services gives rise to risks to the health and safety of both employees and other persons, including service users, contractors and members of the public, who could be affected by the activities involved. The council is commitment to effectively managing those risks in order to protect the health and safety of its employees and others. The council’s health and safety department has identified the requirement for competent safety advice in complying with the Safety at Streetworks and Road Works Approved Code of Practice. Suitably experienced Consultant(s) shall provide advice to council on fixed works for short and long durations and mobile/moving works in relation to council activities such as planting, strimming, grass cutting, weeding, litter picking, street sweeping, watering hanging baskets, spraying, waste collection and public events. Consultants shall complete a sample of site walk over surveys with relevant managers and supervisors. The survey sample shall include sites and activities that require a risk assessment and safe system of work only and those that require a risk assessment, safe system of work and temporary traffic management. Site plans, risk assessments and safe systems of work shall be completed for each site surveyed and findings and recommendations communicated to the relevant managers and supervisors.
