Review of Marine Planning monitoring and evaluation framework and development of

Defra on behalf of MMO submitted a proposal to the Policy Evaluation Fund in August 2014. The proposal was successful and we have been awarded funding to gain expert evaluation of the East marine plans monitoring programme. Marine planning aims to deliver the UK government’s Marine Policy Statement. To assess whether the plan is achieving this an implementation and monitoring plan has been published and some baselines have been proposed. This work will examine the monitoring plan and the baselines to assess whether they are robust for answering the question of whether plans are delivering policy to the best of their ability. This will enable MMO in collaboration with Defra to understand the robustness of the monitoring plan. It will provide a steer on how best to use innovation to get the best for government, delivery bodies and the public from monitoring marine plans. MMO evidence and planning teams are pleased to be working closely with Defra planning policy and evidence teams to integrate our requirements, get value from external funding opportunities and get the best from policy delivery.
