Project 13786 - PSNI Provision of Police Studies Qualification to Trainees The Police Service of Northern Ireland is required, under legislation, to have police trainees obtain a qualification in Police Studies at the end of their initial training (145 days) as stipulated by the Police Trainee Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2001. The PSNI are now seeking a Service Provider to accredit a newly developed Student Officer Training Programme (SOTP). Under the old contract successful trainees attained a Certificate of Higher Education in Policing upon completion of the SOTP. This was a level 4 qualification on the Qualification Credit Framework worth 120 points under the Credit Accumulation and Transfer Scheme. This is the points system recognised by most UK Higher Education institutions as a method of quantifying credit for a particular course. The PSNI will be seeking an equivalent or higher qualification as the new SOTP contains new elements, adopts a blended learning approach using a learning management system and is longer in duration.
