Provision of a Contractor to Deliver the Crematorium Facility in Newtownabbey

Tender description

The Contract is for the provision of a Contractor to deliver the Crematorium Facility in Newtownabbey. The Project consists of the construction of a new Crematorium Facility of single storey construction, containing a single chapel, offices, staff areas and associated civil/landscaping works including a memorial garden and pond, car parking and a double right hand turn lane for access from the Doagh Road (to the new Crematorium and to Ballyearl Arts & Leisure Centre). A separate Contractor has been appointed to supply, install and maintain the Cremator. The Cremator installation shall take place when the building works has reached a suitable stage prior to Completion of the building works contract (anticipated to be 4 months prior to Completion). The Contractor for this Project will undertake the role of Principal Contractor as defined in CDM 2016. The project is located at Doagh Road, Newtownabbey BT36 5RZ. See location plan in Annex 3. Project Scope – Crematorium Facility which will include: construction of a brick building (950m²) including chapel, offices and staff areas, utility provision and associated civil/landscaping works (4.2ha) including a memorial garden and pond, car parking (100 spaces) and a double right hand turn lane for access from the Doagh Road. The facility will incorporate a number of sustainability features including photovoltaics (PVs) and Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS). A BREEAM rating of ‘Excellent’ is being targeted. It is important that the crematorium and associated landscaped setting is carefully considered to reflect the civic importance of this public building in order to provide a dignified and tranquil setting for people gathering together at a time of loss/bereavement. To this end Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council, in conjunction with their design consultants, has carefully considered and selected the external and internal finishes for the public spaces of the building and the Memorial Garden.
