: Production of a remotely sensed data derived habitat map of Border Mires, Kiel

Tender description

The purpose of this contract is to produce a map of habitat features across the Border Mires, Kielder-Butterburn Special Area of Conservation (SAC). The site is of particular importance for the quality of the transition it represents between blanket bog and raised mire. The mapped area should include a buffer around the whole of the SAC, but also the overlapping SSSIs: Butterburn Flow, Caudbeck Flow, Kielder Mires, Kielderhead and Emblehope Moors, Lampert Mosses, Muckle Moss, Spadeadam Mires. There are areas outside the SAC that are of very high value from a priority habitat point of view. We are particularly interested in these areas where they neighbour or link SAC sites (such as between units 13 and 14 of Kielder Mires SSSI). The habitat features to be mapped include upland heath and bog habitats, habitats where Molinea is a major component, flushes, bracken, unimproved and semi-improved grassland
