Portadown Railway Station Redevelopment

Please note the PQQ Submission return date of Monday 1 August 2011. Portadown Railway Station serves as one of four intermediate stops for the Enterprise service between Belfast and Dublin. There are 453 services through Portadown Station per week. The accommodation is comprised of a single and part two storey building on the southern side of the railway line. A park and ride facility with 99 no. passenger car parking spaces and 15 no. staff spaces is located adjacent to the station building. This park and ride facility provides inadequate turning areas for passenger set-down and pick-up. A second park and ride facility owned by DRD Roads Service is located a short walk from the station. A bus stop is located along the Northway dual carriageway adjacent to the station. Passenger numbers through the station have steadily increased since the introduction of the new Enterprise service and the accommodation no longer meets passenger needs. The concourse area is inadequate for the current passenger numbers. The building has a poor aesthetic image and is in need of refurbishment and redecoration. There are major maintenance issues with the flat roof and rainwater leakage into the training rooms and offices has been a frequent problem. The aim of this exercise is to appoint one suitably qualified contractor to carry out redevelopment works.
