OFMDFM - Maintenance and Support of the Child Research Database

OFMDFM – Maintenance of the Children’s Research Database and its Update with New Research Entries OFMDFM is responsible for co-ordinating the implementation of the cross-departmental Children and Young People’s Strategy. The strategy highlights the need for high quality research and information to inform future developments relevant to children and young people and specifies this as being integral to the success of the strategy. One of the actions in the strategy is to develop mechanisms to co-ordinate research and to develop a website to enhance dissemination of research. Therefore, the need for a central repository for research conducted in NI on children and young people was identified and OFMDFM funded the development and maintenance of the Children’s Research Database and Website which was officially launched on 13 December 2005. The website serves as a useful means for the dissemination of research on all aspects of children’s lives, with a Northern Ireland focus. It provides bibliographic details along with short research summaries informing the reader of the background to the research, the research approach and the main findings. Aim of the Database The overall aim of the database is to continue to provide a central repository for use by individuals and organisations across the children’s sector, acting as a tool for users to identify research conducted on children on a wide range of subject areas. Furthermore, the aim is to make research on children and young people in Northern Ireland available to the widest possible audience and in doing so help avoid the duplication of research studies.
