NW Community Gardens & Allotment Programme – Communal Building

Tender description

The North West Healthy Living, Community Garden and Allotments Project has been developed by the five Councils and key health and social care agencies in the North West region (NI and ROI), in a joint planning, management and delivery process to develop healthy living strategically across the region. The Project will develop a targeted response to local health, social and economic needs through the development of five allotments/community gardens (one in each Council area). The allotments/gardens will be used: • To create a sustainable source of food; • As a resource for health through physical activity; • As a resource to practically impact on ‘food poverty’; • As a community resource which brings people together; • As an educational tool; and • As a source of creating open space and encouraging biodiversity. Sustainable community participation will be achieved through a North West Stakeholders Forum engaging community and voluntary groups and facilitating the transfer of knowledge and skills across the region and assist in supporting groups beyond the lifetime of the Project. Communal Building The timber framed building will be used a training facility for the delivery of seminars, presentations, a range of healthy living courses, practical cookery demonstrations and various publicity events encouraging schools, community groups and the general public to get involved. Provision of tenders for design, supply and delivery of the following communal building as part of the Strabane District Council site at Tulacorr heights, Derry Road, Strabane. • Sectional, timber framed building providing facilities for meetings/education/training room and toilets Single story unit accommodation to include : • Multi-purpose Room including kitchen facility • Entrance/ Cloak Room • Store Room • Male and Female Toilets Existing Planning permission is for a unit 9m x 6m = 54m2 it is not envisaged that we will go any bigger than this.
