NIEA - Roe Valley County Park Mill Race Refurbishment

Tender description

The project involves the refurbishment of a disused clay lined mill race at Roe Valley Country Park, Limavady, Co. Derry. Refurbishment of the mill race is the first stage of a hydroelectric project planned by Northern Ireland Environment Agency, which, when completed, will generate electricity at Roe Valley visitor centre. This current project involves refurbishment of the mill race only. The refurbishment project involves a continuous section of the existing mill race approximately 1760m in length, which runs at a shallow gradient from the intake structure, just upstream of the weir on Roe River, to a point adjacent to Roe Valley Country Park museum. The first section to be refurbished is approximately 407m in length, commencing at the mill race intake control valve, which requires extensive relining with suitable natural clay and also upgrading works to an adjacent riverside path. The second section, approximately 803m requires some minor areas of clay embankment rebuilding. The third section, approximately 550m in length, requires extensive relining with natural clay.
