Tender description

The contract is for the provision of a Conservation Management Plan for Carrickfergus Castle, Co. Antrim. The castle is a historic monument in State Care, managed by the Department of the Environment (DoE). It is one of Northern Ireland’s flagship historic monuments. The site is open and presented to the public. The Department is fully committed to the conservation and management of the site and increased enhancement of visitor use, understanding and appreciation. It is recognised that the site is not currently used or presented at an optimum level. The overall aim of the Department is to maximise the potential of the site as a major heritage asset for Northern Ireland, while retaining the physical and historic integrity of the site and providing a safe, unique and authentic experience for visitors and regular users. The Department requires a Conservation Management Plan to provide the framework to guide how to appropriately develop the site, to enable its significances to be retained while addressing the conservation needs of the physical fabric, refurbishment and development of interpretative material, and presentation to, and visitor use of, the site. There are a number of external stakeholders, including the local authority and archaeological professionals. These stakeholders must be consulted and their views incorporated into the overall plan. A methodology for stakeholder engagement must be provided to NIEA by the successful service provider for approval. Please see MOI Part B for further details.
