Tender description

The Enforcement of Judgments Office (EJO) was established in 1971 and replaced the old Sheriff’s and Bailiff System. It operates under two pieces of legislation The Judgments Enforcement (NI) Order 1981 (1981 No226 (NI 6)) - ‘the order’ and The Judgments Enforcement (NI) Rules 1981 (1981 No147) – ‘the rules’. The EJO is the statutory body in the jurisdiction of Northern Ireland for the enforcement of Civil Court judgments in respect of money, goods, property and land. In carrying out its obligations, the EJO require the services of a removal company. The removal company will be responsible for the removal of all goods and possessions from a property or land and the transportation and storage of such goods and possessions. The removal company will be required to (1) bring such goods to auction in seizure cases and (2) in possession cases store such goods and possessions in a safe and secure environment until the owner pays the necessary expenses to have them returned or until the statutory holding period of 41 calendar days has expired. If the latter occurs (the statutory holding period expires without payment of expenses) the removals company must take the goods and possessions to auction to recover the Offices’ expenses. If the goods are deemed unsaleable by the auctioneer the removal company will be required to arrange for such goods to be destroyed in an ecological manner in line with statutory waste legislation including the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive.
