NBC - Consultants for Pool Plant Refurbishment at Valley Leisure Centre

Tender description

The Valley Leisure Centre is one of Newtownabbey Borough Councils premier facilities. Built in the 1970’s it houses an 8 court main hall, 2 minor halls, fitness suite, indoor soft play area, squash courts, meeting rooms, café and 2 swimming pools. The main pool is a 25m long 6 lane rectangular tank and a separate 110m2 learner/toddler pool. Over the past few years parts of the building have been refurbished or altered to accommodate the changing trends in leisure activities. This includes the fitness suite in 2007 and soft play area in 2009. Throughout this period the swimming pools (fabric and plant) have been repaired on a more adhoc basis. The most recent work was to replace the media in the filtration tanks and a partial re-tiling of the deck adjacent to the main pool. In other instances repairs have only been carried out following the failure of system elements e.g. pumps, calorifiers. To overcome this the Council has allocated significant funding to carry out a comprehensive refurbishment/replacement of the pool plant and potentially re-lining of the pool tanks and re-tiling of the pool deck. The Council now wishes to appoint a suitably qualified consultant to take the project forward, including detailed design, tendering and supervision/contract administration.
