Translink is the brand name for the public transport group of operating companies of Ulsterbus, Northern Ireland Railways and Citybus (which trades under the brand name Metro). Since 2002, Translink have offered and continue to offer discounted commercial ticket products on non-personalised pre-printed smartcards predominantly for use on buses. Translink wish to further develop the use of new technology in order to deliver benefits for rail customers. Two of the ticket products sold by NI Railways are weekly and monthly tickets. Currently, rail weekly and monthly tickets are issued on paper ticket rolls from our rail booking offices and from our on-train conductors. Weekly tickets are based on the calendar week (i.e. fixed Sunday end date regardless of day of issue) while Monthly tickets have a rolling validity (i.e. ticket issued on 15th of month will have an expiry of 14th of following month). As part of Translink’s strategy to provide integrated travel solutions that are attractive, sustainable and good value we are keen to make our range of discounted products more accessible using new innovative technologies. Translink is therefore seeking expressions of interest from reputable and competent service providers for the provision of a complete customer mobile ticketing (m-ticket) solution.
