Overview of requirements The 11 English Ambulance Trusts are seeking to establish a National Framework Agreement for the supply of Medical Gases. The main scope of the requirement is for the rental/hire of cylinders, the supply of full cylinders of medical gases and the collection and refill of empty (and partially empty) cylinders. The medical gas cylinders will be stored at ambulance stations and carried on all vehicles including ambulances, cars, motorbikes and bicycles. Other gases are required for use by the fleet workshops. Oxygen is predominately the gas used by ambulance services but a mix of Nitrous Oxide (50%) and Oxygen (50%) is also used for the alleviation of pain. Medical gases are medicinal products under the Medicines Act 1968 and, as such must have product licenses and in some instances technical monographs e.g., oxygen and nitrous oxide within the British and European Pharmacopoeias. Contractors must have U.K. Medical Product Licenses for all products quoted for by commencement of supply and all equipment must have the appropriate British Standard License. Medical gas cylinders & ancillary equipment and the equipment used for storage & supply during transport and the ancillary equipment therein used will comply with the equivalents of 1S032-1977/1S0407 & HTM 02-01 and the standards referenced therein Deliveries will be made 52 weeks per year, including weeks containing bank holidays. Deliveries and collections are required to multiple sites based across England The contractor will visit the trust’s premises at a frequency and to a location, which will be notified, by individual sites to deliver full cylinders and collect empty cylinders.
