Invest NI - "Commercialisation Study" Research Project

Invest NI requires a service provider to undertake a study – the ‘Commercialisation Study’ - to better understand how the Northern Ireland economy can benefit by the improved commercialisation of the considerable knowledge base that is represented by our world class universities, research institutes, health and social care and FE colleges. The impetus for this study is the recognition that Research, Development and Innovation (RD&I) and its commercialisation, are vitally important for the growth and prosperity of the Northern Ireland (NI) Economy. It is also widely acknowledged that the transfer of technology and knowledge, between the academic and business sector, plays a crucial role in fostering a culture of innovation. The purpose of the Invest NI study is to carry out a ‘health check’ of that ecosystem in Northern Ireland, benchmark it against best practice globally and to work collaboratively to address any gaps and make improvements. The study is not an end in itself but an opportunity to stimulate wider discussion.
