International comparisons of Total Factor Productivity-Causes and Constraints

Tender description

1. This project will provide updated information on the relative agricultural productivity of the UK and its major competitors, and the drivers of productivity performance. It seeks to update previous work by Thirtle and Holding (2004) which analysed the causes and constraints on the UK’s productivity performance in agriculture. 2. The purpose of this exercise is to inform ongoing work by DEFRA on the Agritech strategy, and broader work on Sustainable Intensification which is a policy priority in DEFRA. It should enable policymakers to assess the UK’s recent performance in terms of productivity growth, including areas of relative strength and weakness, as well as providing an understanding of the potential impact of government intervention in this area.
