DSD - Lagan Weir Maintenance and Callout Service Contract

Tender description

The Project is for the provision of a maintenance and callout service for a period of no less than three years and up to five years in accordance with a fully developed schedule of ongoing maintenance services, and where necessary, specification of repairs for those individual elements and processes that constitute the Lagan Weir Control System as a whole. The Lagan Weir comprises five identical bottom hinged fishbelly flap gates, each 19.9m space x 4.5m deep sited within adjacent reinforced concrete piers. The structure extends across the full width of the river and, when operational, maintains upstream water levels and ensures minimum flood risk to upstream areas due to river levels. The structure has recently benefitted from a major refurbishment and upgrade. As a result, a dedicated ongoing maintenance programme is required to ensure that all aspects of the control system operate at optimum performance levels. Each gate is operated by a single, gimbal mounted, double acting hydraulic cylinder and can be locked in the fully raised position by a hydraulically operated latch mechanism. Hydraulic pressure for both gate and latch cylinders is supplied by dedicated hydraulic power units for each gates. The gates are normally raised and lower automatically in sequence by a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) responding to upstream and downstream water level sensors.
