DoJ NIPS Supply and Delivery of Cleaning and Chandlery Items

The Northern Ireland Prison Service, (NIPS) wishes to establish a contract for the Supply and Delivery of Cleaning and Chandlery Items. Forensic Science Northern Ireland (FSNI) are a named party on this contract and will also purchase a number of items as listed. Other Department of Justice (DOJ) agencies, Non-Departmental Public Bodies and Arms Length Bodies, and the Northern Ireland Office (NIO) can access this contract if required. The Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) is an Executive agency of the Department of Justice as of 12 April 2010. The Prison Service currently operates under the control of the Department of Justice. It is governed by the Prison Act (Northern Ireland) 1953 and the Prison and Young Offenders Rules (Northern Ireland) 1995. There are three Prisons in Northern Ireland which comprise HMP Maghaberry and HMP Magilligan which accommodate adult male prisoners and Hydebank Wood Prison and Young Offenders Centre (YOC) which accommodates both Young Offenders and adult female Prisoners. The average daily population within the NIPS Prisons during 2013 was approximately 1,700 with an average remand population of 525. Additional information about the NIPS is available on: www.niprisonservice.gov.uk Forensic Science Northern Ireland (FSNI) is an Agency within the Department of Justice and currently employs approximately 200 staff, all civil servants, of whom roughly 65% are scientists directly involved with casework. FSNI has, in a single location, one of the widest ranges of accredited Forensic Science expertise in Europe. Originally opened in 1956, FSNI has over fifty years experience of Forensic Science provision, many of which were in an adverse 'terrorist' environment.
