DOE Water Quantity Monitoring & Topographic Survey for Fardrum and Roosky

Tender description

Between 2002 and 2011 NIEA (formerly Environment and Heritage Service - EHS) had commissioned hydro-geological monitoring of the karst limestone system of the nationally and European protected Fardrum and Roosky Turloughs ASSI / SAC. Monitoring work had been carried out by placing water level and water quantity measuring equipment at various points around the site (see map in Annex 1). Previous work was aimed at further understanding the ASSI / SAC karst system which previous studies had shown to have been impacted by rock breaches in the adjacent Deane’s Quarry. Further monitoring and analysis of water quantity monitoring data is needed to help NIEA clarify if recent restoration works at Deane’s quarry have been successful. The monitoring work is one of a series of actions that NIEA, an agency of the Department of the Environment (Northern Ireland) is committed to undertake following discussions with the European Commission (EC). NIEA wish to ensure the restoration and protection of the European SAC in line with obligations under the European Habitats Directive (92/43/EEC). Contents of contract: NIEA are seeking Tenders for the following contract comprising of Main themes: 1. Monitoring and data gathering. 2. Data analysis. 3. Reporting.
