Tender description
Project_2111 DETI – Provision of Advice on Abandoned Mines and the Working Salt Mine at Kilroot The purpose of the contract is to provide the Department with advice and expertise in all aspects of mine engineering, The contractor will advise on the safety and remediation options for abandoned mines throughout Northern Ireland thereby assisting the Department carry out its functions under the Mineral Development Act (NI) 1969. The major contract tasks include monitoring unstable abandoned salt mines at Carrickfergus, Co Antrim and monitoring of mining activities at the Kilroot Salt which is owned and operated by the Irish Salt Mining & Exploration Co Ltd (“ISME”). , It is anticipated that the contract will commence late April 2010 and will be for one year with the option to extend for two further periods of one year each, subject to the agreement of both parties and a review of performance.
