Project 18786: Department of Agriculture & Rural Development / Veterinary Service: Provision of Transportation and Care for Seized Animals and Provision of Transportation for Euthanasia and / or Disposal of Certain Categories of Animal not eligible to be sent to a licensed abattoir DARD wish to appoint a Contractor for the collection, housing, care, and disposal of farm animals which meets best value principles, as well all necessary public procurement guidelines and animal welfare management requirements. The Contractor is required to provide the care required for livestock at a holding facility in Northern Ireland. The animals must stay within Northern Ireland for the duration of their care at the recognised secure facility until they are returned to the herd owner, slaughtered, or sold. In addition, the contractor will be required to liaise with both DARD’s Humane Slaughter Team and herd keepers regarding the collection of certain categories of animal (both live and dead) from farms, to facilitate the euthanasia of the collected live animals, and to remove all carcases either direct to rendering, or to Veterinary Sciences Division, Stoney Road, Belfast for post mortem examination as directed by DARD. Please note: DARD will appoint a single supplier as the contractor. However, tenderers are encouraged to make full use of sub-contractors if they consider their use as a suitable means of meeting the customer requirements.
