Rivers Agency carries out inspections of its flood defence Assets on an annual basis. The ongoing repair and maintenance programme for Rivers Agency assets requires the supply of a wide variety of general building materials which will allow our Industrial Labour force to repair and replace structures which the Agency has put in place to prevent flooding and to facilitate the free flow of waterways throughout the area. These products are required to allow the Agency to carry on its business. In addition the Agency has a programme of capital works planned in advance which will also require building products to facilitate these operations. Our business plan requires the Agency to Inspect & maintain as required, 98% of all designated urban open watercourses and 98% of all designated culvert inlet grilles in accordance with the Maintenance Manual. In addition the Agency is required to maintain a minimum of 460 designated rural watercourses and to construct infrastructure to offer enhanced flood protection to 92 properties as part of the Agency’s scheduled programme. This contract will help to provide the resources necessary to carry out these works and other emergency remedial works identified during the contract period. Failure to repair and maintain flood defence structures has serious implications for risk to life, damage to properties and can cause essential infrastructure to fail. Forest Service has an ongoing maintenance programme for each property as well as a large programme of essential operations, including harvesting, road building. Essential maintenance is required throughout the year .To support this work programme Forest Service requires the supply of a wide variety of general building materials. This will allow our Industrial Labour force and contractor resource to carry out our annual work programme.
