DARD - CAFRE Provision of a Virtual Learning Environment Solution. The CAFRE Information and Learning Technology (ILT) Policy requires the provision of a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) to provide controlled access to student learning and assessment materials. The VLE enables CAFRE to deliver distance learning programmes and to meet the needs of those students who, assessed under the Special Educational Needs and Disability (NI) Order 2005 (SENDO), require learning and assessment materials to be provided in an easily accessible format. CAFRE piloted web-based learning using the WebCT package in 2001 and currently uses Blackboard Learn 9.1 through a managed hosted solution located in a Tier 4 Datacentre in Amsterdam. In this current academic year, the system supports approximately 500 courses with almost 2000 users (1700 students and 300 staff). The College has targets to increase the use of the VLE by providing more learning materials online. CAFRE now wish to establish a contract to replace their Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Solution.
