Consultancy Services for Radiotherapy Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital

Tender description

The proposed development of the Radiotherapy Unit at Altnagelvin Hospital will be on the site of the current mortuary. In line with best practice, the unit will deliver both chemotherapy and radiotherapy services to the catchment population. Initially three Linear Accelerators will be required to meet the predicted demand for radiotherapy, however, four bunkers will be built to provide space for future expansion. Additional inpatient beds are likely to be required as well as additional day case accommodation. The project may involve connection to & work within the existing Oncology Department known as the Sperrin Suite. Full support services must be developed as well as the ICT infrastructure to support the new unit. It is envisaged that design will commence in November 2011 and be completed by February 2013 subject to approvals. Teams should note that it is intended that the appointment of consultants for this development will be phased. Initially the appointment will be to develop the scheme to CIM Stage 1 (RIBA Stage D) in order to assist with the completion of Outline Business Case 2 (OBC2). The appointment will be based on the Agreement for the Appointment of Architect, Quantity Surveyor, Engineers and CDM Co-ordinator for Commissioning in Health and Personal Social Services Estate in Northern Ireland. During the initial design period the successful consultants appointment will include the delivery of certain advanced enabling works contracts which will prepare the site for the Radiotherapy Unit. The OBC2 will determine affordability and the funding mechanism for the project. Only after and subject to OBC2 approval, and at the total discretion of the Trust, will the commission be extended to reflect either a publicly or privately funded project procurement.
